"No, his hand isn't cut off It's just all I could and cared to fit onto the paper.
It's the Prince's hand, clutching the crown jewel: the Tear of the Gods. It's supposed to be tear shaped, but I keep forgetting that... Anyway, it's SUPPOSED to be saphire, it always was, but he grips it while he's dying and when they pry it from his hand, it's become red as a ruby and cannot be changed back.
Exerpt from story, the prologue 'rhyme':
Three tasks set, three were ended
Thus came the king the gods portended
Golden heart, sapphire eyes
His gift: the tear the god cries
Upon his head to wear,
It bejeweled the crown there,
And with it came a prize new
Within the glassy crystal blue
Sky to blood and blood to sky
Thus varies the tear the gods cry.
Dreams unknown and yet to come:
Old life new, and new death done "
